Based on UN report on world trends, the global population will reach 6.9 billion July 1 later. In fact, on 31 October, that number will increase to seven billion. Most of this population growth occurred in countries with high fertility rates, especially areas of sub-Saharan Africa.
Director of the UN Population Division said Hania Zlotnik, this analysis depends on the estimated levels of fertility and several other factors, including advances in medicine that makes a person live longer or increasing number of families who decide to have fewer children. "Most significant growth occurred in the poorest countries," said Zlotnik.
Executive director of the UN population fund Dr Babatunde Osotimehin said, "Seven billion world population is a challenge and an opportunity. On the whole, people live longer and live healthier lives and have smaller families."
However, to ensure the welfare of society today and generations to come, "Need new ideas and cooperation from all parties," he concluded.
