University College London Medical School has recently issued the results of research on the importance of sleep duration for someone who is entering middle age. As a result, a person who lack or excess of sleep in the elderly may have an impact on cognitive decline, aka close to folly.
This research was conducted in two stages namely the period 1997-1999 and 2003-2004. Respondents were asked about the average duration of sleep per night in one week. Similar questions submitted in 2003-2004 to examine memory, logical decision-making ability, the ability of vocabulary, memory status and verbal ability.
The result was the researchers note, sleep less than 6 hours per night were considered less. While more than 8 hours is considered excessive. The researchers concluded that good sleep between 6 to 8 hours.
Not only is there a good sleep duration for adults, there is also a good sleep duration for children. Here is the number of hours of sleep a child needs based on age according to the National Sleep Foundation:
1. Newborns (0-2 months) require 10.5 to 18 hours sleep 2. Babies (3-11 months) need to sleep 9 to 12 hours and added with a nap 3. Children (1-3 years) need to sleep 12 to 14 hours 4. Children (3-5 years) need to sleep 11 to 13 hours 5. Children of school age (5-12 years) need to sleep 10 to 11 hours 6. Teens (10-17) need to sleep at least 8.5 to 9.5 hours 7. Adults need to sleep an average of 7 hours.
